Westwind Energy SL Limited at the 10th Africa Day of School Feeding

Westwind Energy SL Limited recently took part in the 10th Africa Day of School Feeding in Karene District, an event organised by the World Food Programme (WFP) and the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE). This milestone celebration marked a decade of progress in providing nutritious meals to schoolchildren, improving health, education, and overall community well-being across Sierra Leone.

The event was graced by the Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary Education, the German Ambassador, the Iceland Head of Mission, and representatives from Plan International and Catholic Relief Services.

A key highlight of the day was the unveiling of a BMZ-funded kitchen (German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development) alongside our latest institutional fuel-efficient stoves. Developed in collaboration with Burn Design Lab (BDL), these newly re-engineered 100L institutional stoves are designed to enhance cooking efficiency, improve air quality, and significantly cut firewood consumption.

Our partnership has led to a locally manufactured, high-performance solution that streamlines meal preparation in institutional kitchens, minimises exposure to harmful smoke, and reduces deforestation.

Since 2021, our fuel-efficient stoves have been transforming institutional kitchens in Sierra Leone and Guinea, preparing 7.8 million meals annually, serving 39,700 children, and cutting firewood use by nearly 480,000 kg each year.

Looking ahead, our commitment extends beyond institutional kitchens, we are equally focused on improving household cooking solutions across Sierra Leone. In partnership with Burn Design Lab, we are working towards a future where safe, efficient stoves enhance both schools and homes, creating healthier, more resilient communities for generations to come.
