Job Overview: As a trainee mechanical engineer at Westwind Energy, you will have the unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the dynamic field of renewable energy and sustainable product development. This role focuses on supporting the production of Wonder Stoves, our environmentally friendly cooking solutions. Working alongside an experienced engineer, you will contribute to various aspects of the production process, from design optimisation to quality control.
Key Responsibilities:
- Product Design Support:
- Work with the Technical Head to assist in product design optimisation, focusing on improving efficiency, functionality, and cost-effectiveness.
- Help develop and refine 3D models, prototypes, and simulations to test new design concepts.
- Interpret technical drawings and support the implementation of design specifications in production.

- Manufacturing & Machine Operations:
- Assist in operating CNC plasma and laser cutting machines, adjusting settings under supervision to enhance precision and quality.
- Learn welding and metal fabrication basics, gaining foundational skills in working with industrial equipment and materials.
- Contribute to production meetings, offering input on ways to streamline manufacturing processes.

- Quality Control:
- Conduct inspections and basic quality checks to ensure all products meet technical specifications.
- Collaborate with the quality assurance team to identify areas of improvement and help implement quality enhancements.

- Data Analysis & Reporting:
- Collect production data, including efficiency metrics and quality performance, to support continuous improvement.
- Assist in preparing reports that inform decisions on production enhancements and material use.
- Documentation & Standardisation:
- Support the Technical Head in creating and maintaining accurate documentation on product specifications, manufacturing methods, and quality standards.
- Assist in drafting standard operating procedures (SOPs) for production tasks to improve consistency and efficiency.
- Collaboration & Training:
- Engage with cross-functional teams, including R&D, production, and quality control, to learn all stages of the manufacturing process.
- Participate in training sessions led by the Technical Head to build technical skills and understand core production principles.
Qualifications:
- Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.
